Benefits of Deep Tissue, Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage:

  • If you’re experiencing physical, emotional, or mental stress from work, family matters, or daily life, a relaxing deep tissue massage might be exactly what you need. Massage promotes relaxation by calming the nervous system and stimulating the release of feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine. This holistic approach helps you manage every day stress, work-related pressure, and even chronic anxiety.

  • Poor posture and long hours sitting at a desk or driving for long periods is a recipe for pain, especially in your upper and lower back, neck, shoulders, and forearms! A therapeutic, Ashiatsu massage will help bring relief to the muscles responsible for this pain and promote better posture, which will also help to lessen pain.

  • This form of deep tissue, myofascial barefoot massage is an effective treatment for post-workout recovery for athletes, Jiu-Jitsu fans, Crossfitters, and fitness enthusiasts of all levels! It will help reduce DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), increase flexibility, and improve range of motion which will, in turn, enhance your athletic performance.

  • By reaching deeper layers, this deep tissue style of barefoot massage can help break up scar tissues and adhesions that may have formed as a result of injury, improving flexibility and range of motion. It can also improve circulation which promotes the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to injured tissues aiding in the healing process.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In the Japenese language β€œAshi” translates to foot and β€œAtsu” into pressure. Ashiatsu Massage or barefoot massage, is a deep tissue massage technique in which the therapist delivers deep, broad, consistent pressure utilizing their feet and body weight. Working with gravity instead of against it, Ashiatsu therapists are able to provide an effective therapeutic massage without causing pain or discomfort to themselves or the receiving client.

Cream is applied to the clients body making this deep therapeutic massage fluid and relaxing. Parallel bars are used above the massage table for balance, support and client safety.

  • Due to the compressive nature of Ashiatsu barefoot massage, therapists must take extra precaution with certain client conditions. This a just a hand full of conditions that would be contraindicated for receiving an ashiatsu treatment. However, a certified Deepfeet Therapist will have full knowledge of all contraindications for ashiatsu and how to best address their client needs.

  • An Ashiatsu massage session is best received when the client undresses completely. You may undress to your comfort level, but for a smooth and effective session, we need to be able to glide from head to toe without getting caught on fabric. You will always be properly draped with a sheet and blanket, and uncovered on just the area being worked – you will never be inappropriately exposed.

  • Traditional deep tissue massage uses thumbs, knuckles, and elbows to work through muscle tension - which can feel sharp, pokey, and leave you sore. Ashiatsu barefoot massage delivers the same depth using the broad surface of the foot instead, which means the pressure is wider, more even, and goes deeper without triggering your body's pain response. Most clients who've had both say Ashiatsu gets to places traditional deep tissue never could, and they leave feeling relieved instead of beaten up.

  • Athletes and people who train hard put their bodies through a lot. Ashiatsu barefoot massage is uniquely effective for active bodies because the broad, sustained foot pressure reaches deep layers of muscle tissue that hands simply can't access. It breaks up adhesions, releases tight fascia, reduces DOMS, and improves range of motion β€” so your body actually recovers between sessions instead of just grinding through the soreness. Whether you're a runner, into CrossFit, or powerlifter, Ashiatsu gives your body the depth of work it actually needs to perform at its best.

  • In Ashiatsu,we use our feet to glide on specific areas of the body, using controlled movements to apply sustained pressure. This allows me to work on larger areas of muscle at once, delivering more even and consistent pressure compared to hands-on deep tissue massage.

We also use overhead bars for support to ensure our movements are controlled and effective. The result? A deep, comfortable pressure that is often described as a β€œthe best massage I’ve ever had!”

While every body is different, one thing remains the same: the need for consistent, effective, and intentional bodywork.
