Three Things I am Loving Right Now, Part 3: Hiking

The third addition to my list of current favorites (and my favorite of the favorites): Hiking! Physical activity is at the top of my list for improving mental and emotional health, which inherently will also lead to an improvement in physical health.

Hiking feels like a therapeutic escape. It provides a space and the time where I can process the thoughts that have been lingering in my mind throughout the week. Plus, the physical exertion gives me a much-deserved dose of exercise that helps with both my physical and mental well-being. (endorphins anyone?!) But also, being surrounded by nature allows me to reconnect with the simplicity and beauty of the earth, and all the critters that are going about minding their business, offering a refreshing perspective and a sense of calm.

Nature is Therapy. For me, hiking isn't just a walk; it's a powerful connection with the outdoors. The quietude of the woods, the crispness of the air, and the skittering of bugs become a natural remedy for the soul. It really is a therapeutic escape! I’m a reptile lover. So I’m hoping to encounter any types of reptiles in the wild, but also I hope it’s in a good mood that day. 🐍

You’ll definitely get a boost to your physical and mental well-being. Nature itself, the peace, the quiet, the rustling, the elevation, the rhythmic stride, fresh air, and scenic views all contribute to both physical and mental health. And the meaningful conversations had with friends while hiking also contribute to mental and emotional well-being.

Whether it's a short trail or a treacherous path, the sheer joy of completing a hike is invigorating. ⛰️ I feel accomplished after every trail!

My goal was to enjoy all of the trails at Freidrich Wilderness Park in the NorthWest side before I moved on to the next park. I quickly got through that and have explored Eisenhower Park, Enchanted Rock, and Inks Lake! There are so many places surrounding San Antonio and beyond that I want to hike at, but so little time!

If you’d like to see what trails are nearby, there’s this neat little app called ALLTRAILS App or you can go to their website HERE and put in your zip code and they’ll give you a list of trails, with the details of the length, the difficulty, and the time it would take to complete the hike!

Do you enjoy hiking? I'd love for you to share your favorite hiking spots with me! Also, I’d LOVE to know what are YOUR “three things” that you do to improve your mental and/or physical health!?

Happy Trails,

Valerie
